QuickTime for Java Vulnerability – 5/3/2007
Verizon Online has learned of a heap memory corruption vulnerability in Apple QuickTime for Java. By convincing a user to run a malicious Java application or applet, a remote, unauthenticated attacker may be able to execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the user, accomplished by visiting a malicious web page with a Java-enabled web browser. Also known as Win32.Blackmal.F [Computer Associates], W32/MyWife.d@MM [McAfee], Tearec.A [Panda Software], W32/Nyxem-D [Sophos].

Threat level: medium-high. The W32.Blackmal.E@mm is a mass mailing worm that spreads by obtaining e-mail addresses found on the infected machine. The e-mail that carries the W32.Blackmal.E@mm payload disguises itself as an e-mail containing an attachment with pornographic content. When executed, the worm tries to close any firewall, anti-virus software or similar security programs.

Step 3: Get the Latest Windows Update(s)
If you use Microsoft Windows, make sure you have the most recent updates. To do this:
1. Click the Start button in the bottom left corner of your screen.
2. Select Windows Update.
3. Follow the instructions to install the latest updates.
